About the Cherry Creek District

Cherry Creek is a neighborhood located 10 minutes from downtown, and is one of the most popular areas associated with Downtown Denver. Cherry Creek is named after the river, which is 64 miles long and a tributary of the South Platte River, which runs through the Central Platte Valley.

Cherry Creek is south-central of Denver, with the river running along the neighborhood's southern border. Cherry Creek borders University Boulevard to its west, Colorado Boulevard, to its east, and East Sixth Avenue, to the north.

Cherry Creek is divided into different sections, which represent the differing aspects of the Denver neighborhood. Cherry Creek North is known for its many shops, restaurants, and upscale boutiques. The shopping and dining district in Cherry Creek North stretches 16 city blocks, and offers more than 320 Cherry Creek stores and Cherry Creek restaurants, and the Cherry Creek Shopping Center.

Popular seasonal events in Cherry Creek North include the the winter Cherry Creek North Ice Rink, the July Cherry Creek Arts Festival, and the summer Films on Fillmore community event. Films on Fillmore, which traditionally showed free films at the plaza at Fillmore and Second on Thursday evenings through July and August, was not held in 2009. In its place, Skyline Park offered Mile High Movies, and Glendale's Infinity Park featured Monday Movie Madness.
 

Cherry Creek History

Cherry Creek - the river - was a popular gold-mining location in the 1800s. It was a part of 1858 and 1859's Pikes Peak Gold Rush, and gold was discovered at the "Cherry Creek diggings."
