Hunger and poverty are issues no individual or family should ever have to face. Unfortunately, food insecurity is a widespread issue throughout the world and even in our own backyards. In fact, there are 14,000 children living in poverty in the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley School Districts alone.
Thankfully, organizations have been created to combat these issues head on. Community Food Share was created to be a leader in the community’s effort to end hunger in Boulder and Broomfield counties. The organization collects food and money in order to provide meals to those in need. Although they work year round to end hunger, they are currently focused on the 32nd annual ‘Let’s Bag Hunger Food Drive.’ This drive runs from November 13-23 and aims to collect enough donations to distribute 9.3 million meals this year!
What Can We Do To Help?
Volunteer at Grocery Stores
Throughout November our agents are collecting donations of non-perishable food items. You'll find us at local grocery stores handing out bags to shoppers willing to donate while they do their grocery shopping. You too can donate your time by volunteering as a grocery store greeter, warehouse helper, or even organizing your own drive. Volunteers are key elements to help the success of Community Food Share and their campaign to end hunger.
Make Monetary Donations
Don't have time to donate non-perishable items, no worries! You can easily donate money online! $1 purchases 3 meals for local families in need. Just a few dollars can make a major impact on Community Food Share’s efforts. In fact, your money goes even further when donated to the organization because they are able to obtain food in bulk at significantly lower prices.
